1. Background and Inspiration - Olive & Wee, could you share a bit about your background in character design and what inspired you to create 'Bichi Mao'?

   We’re both from different industries but we share the love of cats and art. It was just like any other night during COVID when Olive drew the very first Mao. Wee gave the nod of approval to its cuteness and potential. The rest was history.

2. Creative Process - What does your creative process look like when designing a new story or sticker set for 'Bichi Mao'?

   Our creative process for designing new stories or sticker sets involves a collaborative approach. We first brainstorm ideas with our team, then we proceed to sketch out the story and refine them together. Olive & the team’s illustration expertise brings the characters to life. The process is iterative, ensuring each detail aligns with the charm of Bichi Mao.

   

3. Challenges and Solutions - Creating a character-based sticker series is a journey filled with challenges. Could you tell us about a significant challenge you faced with 'Bichi Mao' and how you overcame it?

   We have been thinking about releasing our own sticker packs for quite a while now. So that was a lot of ideas & inspiration already ready to be executed. However, the main challenge that emerged was maintaining consistency in our releases. Also trying to release new & fresh stickers, which we overcame by establishing themes & studying other sticker packs we love.  Feedback from our community played a crucial role as well.

4. Audience Engagement - How do you connect with your audience and gather feedback to ensure 'Bichi Mao' resonates with them?

   We always read the comment section of our posts. We pay attention to what our community reacts to, positively & negatively. It is encouraging & refreshing to see how people react to our stories. There are some comments that are hilarious which always brighten our day. We are grateful for their constant support & passion for Bichi Mao. We do however try our best to stay true to our own voice so that Bichi Mao remains authentic.

5. Stipop Platform Experience - What has been your experience using the Stipop platform? How has it helped in showcasing and distributing 'Bichi Mao'?

   Stipop has been instrumental in showcasing and distributing Bichi Mao stickers. We are also extremely thankful that their founders really do care about creators & constantly communicate with us on how they can do better.    For aspiring creators, authenticity is key. Stay true to your passion, engage with your audience genuinely, and be open to evolving. Consistency is also crucial to fostering a significant audience.

7. Future Plans - Do you have any future plans or upcoming projects for 'Bichi Mao' that your fans can look forward to?

   We are hitting the ground running for 2024. We are working on our blind box series, plush toy series, 3D animation, and also several brand collaborations. We hope that our community will enjoy our upcoming releases. We’re excited about all these projects & look forward to showing them to the world.

8. Personal Growth and Learning - How has your journey with 'Bichi Mao' contributed to your personal and professional growth as a creator?

   The journey with Bichi Mao these past 4 years has been transformative. It not only honed our creative skills but also taught us the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the joy of sharing positivity through our work. We also had to learn how to start a team and work with brands. Bichi Mao has become a source of continual personal and professional growth which we are grateful for and will continue to do our best.

   I created the characters Evie and Kinie as two opposites who, despite this, are madly in love with each other and cannot be apart. My inspiration always and in everything is my wife. We have been together for more than 10 years, and in creating each video, I just look at our everyday lives.

2. Creative Process - What does your creative process look like when designing a new story or sticker set for 'Evie_Kinie'?

   When a funny moment happens in my everyday life with my wife, I imagine how Evie and Kinie would look in this situation, after which I get to work. This was my first experience in creating stickers, so I sat in front of a mirror and tried to show different emotions, then sketched out the most successful ones in my opinion.

   

3. Challenges and Solutions - Creating a character-based sticker series is a journey filled with challenges. Could you tell us about a significant challenge you faced with 'Evie_Kinie' and how you overcame it?

   Before creating Evie and Kinie, I had never created frame-by-frame animation, and learning the basic knowledge of frame-by-frame animation was and still is a big difficulty for me. Also, creating each video takes me about 8-10 hours, and sometimes I have to force myself to work.

4. Audience Engagement - How do you connect with your audience and gather feedback to ensure 'Evie_Kinie' resonates with them?

   I really love communicating with my audience through comments and personal messages. I really enjoy creating different polls to get closer to my audience. When I publish a new video, I pay attention to the views; if the number of views is higher than usual, it means that the moment from our everyday life resonated with more people.

   In the comments and in direct messages, people often wrote to me about stickers, but I didn’t know how to do it. Stipop helped Evie and Kinie characters break into an absolutely new niche. Visit the studio website and sign up by entering your email address. You’ll also be asked to enter your mailing address, which is required to receive any payouts from Stipop.

It’s crucial that once your sticker pack is live, you should let your audience know about it. Try sharing a story or a post on your Instagram or Facebook account. You can also share the link to your sticker pack with your friends and families.

Because some channels work differently than others, the revenue model can be a little different.

In this document, we will explain the different types of revenue models in each main channel.

1) Stipop App

Stipop App is offered for both Android and iOS devices. Users can subscribe to Stipop Membership and get the following benefit:

• Send unlimited stickers on iMessage

• Export monthly ‘x’ number of sticker packs to WhatsApp and Telegram

• Use stickers to create unique wallpaper and watch face

The reason why on iMessage unlimited sticker use is offered whereas in WhatsApp and Telegram, it’s limited, is because on iMessage we can lock stickers once the user opts out from Membership. However on WhatsApp, once the user exports the sticker pack there is no way for Stipop to delete or lock the pack so it works more like a single purchase.

To intrigue and convert more users into a Subscription (thus increasing artist payout) we offer what’s called a weekly free sticker pack option on our home page of the app. Your sticker pack may be offered for free for a week, but because this is just offered for iMessage users will be locked out from using your sticker pack once the free period is over, and if they like the sticker pack they will more likely convert into paying user.

2) Stipop B2B Channel

Besides the iOS and the Android app, we offer a B2B solution. What this does is basically help services (like a dating app or an editing tool, etc.) that don’t have stickers offer stickers to their users by easily installing the Stipop B2B solution. In this case, the company or service that is using Stipop Solution will pay a monthly fee depending on monthly sticker users within that service. This money will be transferred as an artist payout depending on the % of sticker usage among monthly sticker users.

Below are some examples of services that are included in our B2B channel. We will try to keep the list as up-to-date as possible, but because of how new companies are updated and existing services leave, this may not be 100% accurate all the time. But if there are any major updates, we will inform you through email.

According to Stipop app data, the top searched keywords during 2020~2023 were in big part related to holidays and events. For instance, during February, some of the most searched keywords by users in the Stipop app were “valentine”, “love”, “heart” and “rose”. Already signed up, it’s time for you to visit My Studio – which is where the magic happens! The My Studio page is accessible from the Studio website and it gives you access to your own platform to manage and upload sticker content on Stipop. Here, you have access to data reports that show you how your stickers are performing worldwide and your own wallet – which lets you know how much you have earned from your content!

From here, click Upload from the left menu and select whether you want to upload a static (PNG) pack or an animated (GIF) pack.

2.1 Sticker Pack Info

The process starts with adding basic information about the sticker pack. This includes

• Sticker pack name and the main language of the pack

• Character or series name - “Pikachu, SpongeBob, etc.”

• Description of the sticker pack - “This cat character flew from outer space..”

• Category

• Pricing

Regarding the sticker pack pricing, you have options to select Free, Paid, or Premium sticker packs. Paid and Premium sticker pack pricing varies depending on the sticker pack type (static or animated). To learn more about pricing, click here.

2.2 Upload stickers

Next, it’s time to upload the sticker files. If you are working on a static sticker pack, upload the PNG files here. If they are animated, upload GIF files. You can learn more about the specifics of sticker files in the Guidelines page. In short, you should be uploading 10~30 sticker files here.

Once the files are uploaded, you’ll see an option to enter sticker tags (or keywords) below each sticker and a bulk tag option. First, use the bulk tag option to add tags that apply to all of the stickers (for example, if your character is a cat, “cat” would be a good bulk tag), and then add action or emotion-related tags to each sticker.

• Pack name

• Character name

• Character type – is your character a dog? a baby? a tomato?

• Pack theme – is your pack about summer? fall season?

• Emotion – is your sticker pack full of funny stickers? or super cute designs

• Action – are your stickers running? jumping? laughing?

You can always use synonyms to optimize the chance of your pack being found by users. After you finish writing down everything, make sure there are no typos!

2.3 Preview

Only one more step to go! Check the sticker order and click on a sticker to make it the main sticker of the pack. Finally, add the app tray icon (100 x 100 px) which is a small icon that users click to open the pack on iMessage.

Once you are all set click Submit to upload your sticker pack for a review. The review will typically take 2~5 business days. During the review, the Stipop content team will make sure that all the sticker files are ready for all the different messengers. Once it’s live, you will be notified through the email. You can also see the stickers you’ve uploaded on the Review page.

Keywords 101

What are keywords?

Keywords are words or sentences that help users find content. When it comes to stickers, keywords are short descriptions that help users find stickers to use in online conversations.

Why do keywords matter?

As a sticker creator, keywords help your stickers appear in search engines. For example, in the Stipop App search, users can type keywords to find the stickers they want to use. For instance, if they are looking for dog sticker packs, a quick search for “dog” will do the trick, and several cute dog stickers will appear. While, if they are looking for more festive-related stickers, a quick search for “Christmas” or “New Year” is enough.

Not adding keywords to your stickers means users can’t find your work in search engines. Unfortunately, this impacts the overall performance of your stickers – as the chances of new users finding and using your stickers are way lower.

How to add keywords to chat stickers

Depending on the platform, you can add keywords that describe an entire sticker pack or individual stickers. Depending on the scenario, the keywords you need to add change.

When adding keywords to describe an entire sticker pack, make sure to add words or sentences that describe the following topics:

• Sticker pack name

• Character name

• Character type – is your character a dog? a baby? a tomato?

• Pack theme – is your pack about summer? fall season?

• Aura – is your sticker pack full of funny stickers? or super cute designs
